Best Guide to Clean Your Iron

The first impression lasts: we all judge people based on their appearance or how they look. When we talk about appearance, clothes play an important role. Whenever we go out in public or a social gathering, an ironed and neat dress shows your self-care of your appearance and the respect you show for the social event. But what if the bottom of the iron is burnt out and it leaves some stains on your clothes; it will definitely look unpleasant.

But don’t worry; you can now clean your iron without hurting your fingers and change ugly iron into a very fresh one. Here are some solutions which you can use to clean your iron.

Salt and Newspaper

One of the most popular solutions to clean your iron is salt and newspaper. Heat your iron to a high temperature. Take a newspaper and lay it down on the ironing table. Spread a fair amount of salt over the newspaper and then rub iron over this salty newspaper until it’s cleaned. After that, rub a wet cloth over the iron plate to clean any residue.

Baking Soda

Baking soda works very well in cleaning all-purpose surface cleaners. Take two to three spoons of baking soda and make a thick paste with water. Rub this paste on the cold iron plate with a soft brush or towel, but try not to get this paste in the steam holes, and then simply wiped this paste with a clean wet cloth.

Vinegar

Vinegar is a natural cleaning ingredient used for eco-friendly cleaning and also to clean iron. Simply take a towel and soak it in vinegar. Then place the iron plate on this soaked towel for almost half an hour. After that clean it with a wet cloth and you can see that the scorches on the iron plate will have vanished.

Salt and Vinegar

If the residue is left on the iron plate using only vinegar, you can use a mixture of salt and vinegar. Take some white vinegar and dissolve three teaspoons of salt in it. Dip a towel or clean cloth in this mixture and rub this over the iron plate until it’s cleaned. Then wipe the iron plate with a wet cloth to clean the stains.

Vinegar and Baking Soda

You can use vinegar and baking soda separately by the above methods, but combining these two can make a powerful cleaning duo. Take a cup of vinegar and add 4 to 5 spoons of baking soda to it. Soak a towel in this mixture and lay it down on a table. Run the iron over this towel until your iron is clean.

Lime Juice and Baking Soda

Lime juice works quite well in cleaning the iron. Lime contains acid which will leave iron like new. Simply take one lime juice and add enough baking soda to make a thick paste. And spread this paste over the cold iron plate and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes. After this, clean the iron with a wet cloth.

You can also use another method, take a half slice of lime, spread some baking soda on it, and rub this lime over the iron until the stain is lifted.

Toothpaste

One of the simple ways to clean your iron is using toothpaste. Simply take white toothpaste of any brand and rub this over the iron plate, leave this for 2 to 3 minutes and then wipe this out with a wet cloth.

Detergent

If you don’t have any vinegar or baking soda at your home, no worries, you can still clean your iron by using a simple ingredient. Take any dishwashing detergent and dilute it in warm water. Soak a towel or any other cloth in this mixture and lay it down on a table. Place your iron over this towel and leave it for an hour and then clean the iron plate with a soft sponge or cloth.

Dryer Sheets

Switch your iron on and heat it to the lowest setting. Take some dryer sheets and rub them over the iron plate one by one until you remove the entire gunk from the iron plate. After rubbing the dryer sheets, increase the heat at maximum temperature and iron an old cloth or towel to clean any residue.

Nail Polish Remover

Nail polish remover is also used to clean iron. Take some cotton and soak it into acetone nail polish remover. Heat your iron at the maximum temperature. Take the soaked cotton with any heat protective glove or oven mittens and rub this on the hot iron plate. It will clean the entire residue and leave a fresh iron plate. This process will leave some chemical fumes, so try to do this outside in an open environment so that you or your family don’t breathe chemical fumes.
